VITA Tax Program

Don’t Pay to have your taxes prepared.  Don’t lose any of your money on refund anticipation loans and check cashing fees. Visit an VITA site and have your taxes prepared and filed FREE by a IRS-certified volunteer preparer and YOU KEEP THE CHANGE!

If your household earned less than $50,000 last year, you may qualify for this free service and for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Dial 2-1-1 to reach a United Way call specialist for more information.

Items you MUST bring with you to have your taxes prepared at a VITA Site:

• Original Social Security cards for the tax payer and for everyone claimed on the return. NO PHOTOCOPIES ACCEPTED. Contact the Social Security Administration to obtain cards.
• Valid photo I.D.
• All income documents such as W-2s, 1099s, etc.
• For direct deposit: A cancelled check or your bank account routing number and account number. A bank account must be established at a financial institution of your choice prior to visiting a VITA site for tax return preparation and filing.

Are you Eligible for EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit)

• Must work and have earned income.
• Generally must be a U.S. citizen or ‘resident alien’ all year
• Must have a valid Social  Security number
• Investment income limited to $3,150
• Cannot use “married filing separately”
• Cannot be a qualifying child of another person
• Cannot file Form 2555 or 2555-EZ
