JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Children returned to Galloway Elementary School this week with a fresh look thanks to a partnership with the United Way of the Capital Area.

The students wore navy blue and gold shirts with khaki and blue bottoms in sizes ranging from a 4 all the way to a 16.

Volunteers gathered at the school on Friday to organize the donations, including goodie bags from CarMax.

“I’m very excited to get new uniforms for our kids,” Natasha Simmons, Principal of Galloway Elementary School, said. “When you look good, you feel good and when you feel good, you perform good. So, we are definitely grateful for their donations.”

“We have deep relationship: the United Way capital area with Jackson Public Schools. Galloway Elementary is actually one of our charter schools and so it’s a perfect relationship and we’re grateful that we can continue these assets. We can continue to make sure that every child has the same opportunity to learn and that starts with clothing,” said Jason McCarty, Chief Program Strategist for the United Way of the Capital Area.

In collaboration with school administrators, United Way of the Capital Area set a goal to collect more than 100 uniforms and they have exceeded that goal.

Principal Simmons said the school accepts donations all year long.
