Blackburn students lead a farmer's market selling produce from their learning garden
Blackburn Middle School students, with the generous backing of United Way of the Capital Area and the unwavering support of community partners, will host a farmer's market. Other event sponsors include JSU Community Engagement, Soul City Solar, and JSU Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition. This event is a shining example of United Way's work to improve health, education, and economic mobility, and it wouldn't be possible without the active participation of our community. Blackburn Middle School students are learning how to grow, prepare, and sell produce. This program empowers the Jackson community with a healthier alternative to address food insecurity, promote healthy eating habits, and foster economic support and sustainability.
The Farmer's Market will be Friday, May 17th, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Blackburn Middle School. We invite you to come and support Blackburn's students. At noon, the United Way of the Capital Area's President and CEO, Nikki McCelleis, will participate in a brief program. This program will highlight the collaboration and unity between Blackburn Middle School, Jackson State University Community Engagement, United Way, and others. Join us and buy some veggies and fruits they've grown, including onions, tomatoes, carrots, apples, watermelons, and more!
